Larry Stone has been a sportswriter for 39 years, the past 22 for the Seattle Times. A 1979 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Stone began his career in 1979 at the Yakima (WA) Herald-Republic. He also worked for the Bellevue  Journal-American (WA), the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat (CA) and the San Francisco Examiner before joining the Seattle Times in 1996. He covered the Seattle Mariners and national baseball from 1997 to 2013—including the heart of Edgar Martinez’s career—before becoming the Times’ sports columnist in 2013. Stone has won numerous Associated Press Sports Editors writing awards and was twice named Washington’s Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.
